The Historic Home of the J.E. DeVaughn Family

The DeVaughn Family was one of Montezuma’s early peach growers, packers, and shippers.  The two DeVaughn brothers, J.E. and Carl, built almost identical homes in 1931 on what was known as “Literary Hill” in Montezuma.  This area of town housed the intellectual elite of the area, including Georgia’s first female legislator.  He J.E. DeVaughn Family is the only family ever to occupy this home.

Since there are no more DeVaughn relatives living in the area, the Home is priced to sell at $87, 900, a bargain at almost anyone’s standards.

The Home has extremely large rooms with plastered walls and hardwood floors.  It has two floors and a basement.  There are 5 bedrooms, three full baths, a huge living room and separate dining room, a nice kitchen with adjoining pantry and breakfast room, lots of deep closets and storage, an entrance foyer, very nice enclosed porch off of living room, floored attic and laundry and mechanical room in basement.

The Home has two separate electric forced air cooling systems; one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs area.  The Home is heated with steam radiators in each room fired by a gas furnace located in basement area. The basement is also a perfect storm shelter.
